The best way to learn to use acrylics is to jump in and start playing with the paint. If you have always wanted to try acrylics, but weren’t sure how to get started, this class is for you. Learn the unique properties that allow acrylics to be used loose and washy, like watercolors or more opaquely like oils. Combine these techniques to create paintings that have both transparent and opaque areas. We will explore acrylic collage, acrylics on yupo and guided paintings as we play this versatile medium.
Paint: Bring whatever acrylics you may already own. I will be using the following colors (Quiller brand) : Pyrrole Orange, Titanium White, Phthalo Blue Green, Ultramarine Blue, Cad Yellow Light and Quinacridone Red
Paper: 140 lb watercolor paper in cold press, rough or smooth, depending on what you normally paint on. We will be working on half sheet and quarter sheet sizes, so three or four full size sheets (22” x 30”) should be enough. If you have watercolor blocks in half or quarter sizes, that will work also. Yupo – one or two sheets (available at Meiningers)
Brushes: synthetic watercolor or acrylic brushes in the following sizes
Flats: ¼”, ½”, 1” and Rounds: 6 & 10, to start with.
Misc.: small spray bottle, water container, pencil, masking tape, ruler, collage papers if you have any, acrylic gel medium, if you have it already
Supplies that instructor will provide:I will supply coated paper to act as a disposable palette, some collage papers and gel medium. If there are questions about the supplies students are welcome to call me at 303-526-1542.
